Shanghainese tailors relocated to Hong Kong to escape the turmoil inthe 1950's. Arriving in Hong Kong they found a city open to their skills and the development of shirt tailoring started until it is now the global centre for dress shirts. Not only is Hong Kong home to a rich tailoring heritage, but today due to its tax free status it is also a global centre for shirt fabric trading and development, Tailors from all over the world use shirting supplied from Hong Kong merchants.
Many cities claim to have a fabric industry supporting the local tailoring industry but these are often focussed at niche areas, either with a few outlets for mass production brands or a few high end shirt makers. In Hong Kong there is an entire city district with hundreds of businesses supporting the world's clothing industry. This extends from fashion design, equipment manufacturers, fabric mills right through to high end garment production.
Our team's years of shirting fabric experience and specialist knowledge is used to identify not only the best sources of quality imported European cottons but also new suppliers of super fine shirting from some of Asia's best mills. We often get accused of being fabric junkies or snobs (which we probably are!).
The fabric section page we use is industry leading allowing our customers to clearly identify where our shirting comes from, weave, thread count etc to make sure you have the product you want. You should also check our fabric page regularly, as sometimes limited supplies can be secured for some of our special offers. There is a long tradition of tailoring in Hong Kong and it is this quality-assurance, combined with the availability of great shirting that gives you custom dress shirts for less.
